Legendary playback singer, Asha Bhosle, on March 25, 2021, was felicitated with Maharashtra government’s highest honour, Maharashtra Bhushan Award for 2020. The announcement was made by the board, on Thursday, March 25, 2021.

The award is given annually by the Ministry of Culture and this is second member from her family to be given this award. Earlier, Lata Mangeshkar was felicitated in 1997. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also took to Twitter to share the message and stated that the name was decided after a meeting was held with the Maharashtra Bhushan Award Selection Committee was held on Thursday. The same was chaired by CM Uddhav Thackeray.

Present at the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Vilasrao Deshmukh, Minister of State Rajendra Patil-Yadravkar and other members from the government.

After receiving the award, Asha Bhosle took to Twitter to thank the governemnt and expressed her gratitude for being given state’s highest level of honour. She wrote “My heart felt gratitude to the people of Maharashtra for conferring upon me the highest level of honour the state can award to an individual – the Maharashtra Bhushan Award.  Eternally grateful. Jai hind. Jai Maharashta.”

 In another tweet, she said, “Just got the news of being bestowed the Maharashtra State highest honour to a civilian – Maharashtra Bhushan Puraskar. And no better people to enjoy it with than with your own. @ZanaiBhosle. Thank you all for your love and blessings. Jai Maharashtra”

Earlier, Asha Bhosle was also felicitated with Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan; and has also been recognised as ‘most recorded artist in music history’ basis which she was mentioned in 2011’s Guinness Book of World Records.
