Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar actress Ayesha Jhukla has been one of the top actresses of her time. She became a national crush at that time and earned tons of fans through various films that she did. However, Ayesha stayed away from Bollywood after tying the knot. The Khiladi actress opened up on her journey in the Hindi film industry, the films she rejected and regretted, and more. Ayesha Jhukla was seen in ‘Ada… a way of life’ in 2010, post which she took a sabbatical. She was last seen in Genius in 2018. The actress opened up on losing out on some hit Bollywood offers like Prem Qaidi and Roja.
Ayesha Jhukla in an interview with ETimes revealed that she had been approached for the lead of the 1991 musical film starring Harish Kumar, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Dalip Tahil, Asrani and more but she rejected the offer as she did not want to wear a bikini on screen. She also added that she turned down Arvind Swami and Madhoo starrer Roja due to date issues. “There were a lot of films that I couldn’t do. I couldn’t do Mani Ratnam’s ‘Roja’ due to date issues and I regretted it. Then there was a Rama Naidu film, ‘Prem Qaidi’ which I had to reject because I was supposed to be introduced in a bikini in the film,” Ayesha told ETimes.
The actress also opened up on Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar being a termed as a cult movie. “I had never thought back then that it will go on to become an iconic film. But now, whenever I travel in India or abroad, people still call me Anjali-the girl next door from ‘JJWS’. When I catch up with Aamir Khan, Pooja Bedi or Mansoor, we talk of the old times. I think ‘Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar’ is going to be relevant for a long time,” the actress said.
Ayesha also opened up on the first high-speed song Pehla Nasha Pehla Khumar. Sharing her experience, the actress said, “Well, ‘Pehla Nasha’ was the first high-speed song shot in Bollywood; so, the lip movements were done with a high speed. It was an experiment and a learning experience for me. As for the cycle race, I can never forget an accident on the sets, where a nail had gone into my forehead. But all the preparations were done–a stadium was rented and the camera setup was in place and Mansoor was in a lot of stress, so I decided to go ahead with the shoot despite my surgery. The scenes where you see me wearing a red cap during the race is to hide the injury.”
Ayesha Jhukla revealed that her favourite actor is Aamir Khan. Elaborating why, she said, “Because he is the one actor who always has his head on his shoulders. He works really hard to get into the character. Even now, if you see his films, he just blends into the character, which is amazing! Govinda is another actor I loved working with because he is the complete opposite, an amazing dancer, and a one-shot actor. It was really fun working with him!”
