The trio did not participate in the Sri Lanka Test series with Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer being rested for workload management purpose while Rory Burns skipped the previous tour due to the birth of his first child.

The trio had reached India earlier than their colleagues and having already cleared their three RT-PCR tests hit the nets on Saturday, unlike their teammates.

“The first group of players – Archer, Burns and Stokes – will practice each morning for the next three days. They are limited to a two-hour session,” England’s media manager Danny Reuben informed.

England led by Joe Root and India will play in a four-Test series, with the first two matches set to play in Chennai, before the series moves to Ahmedabad for the final two Tests. Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Rory Burns arrived in India on Sunday night 24th January and will get five days to train following their hotel quarantine. It will be the first international series to be held in India in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

Notably, Mark Wood and Sam Curran have been rested by England for the first two Tests against India, starting on 5 February in Chennai. The England selectors have rested Jonny Bairstow for the first Test, while wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler will return home after the first Test.  Ben Foakes will keep wickets while Ollie Pope will be added to the squad if deemed fit enough.

England skipper Joe Root amassed 426 runs in four innings at an average of 106.50 including two centuries with a high score of 228 in the Sri Lankan Tests and will play his 100th Test at Chennai. Joe Root currently has 8249 runs in 181 innings at an average of 49.39. He is only behind Alastair Cook (12472), Graham Gooch (8900) and Alec Stewert (8463) in England’s all-time run-scorers’ list.
