Black Widow to have a theatre release despite pandemic; Disney’s new CEO shares details on MCU film

After many marvel films were delayed due to the pandemic, fans were left upset, but on the bright side, there is finally an update on a very popular MCU film! One of the most anticipated movies is the Marvel’s Black Widow, and according to Bob Chapek, the new CEO of Disney, the movie will still be released in theatres, despite many other films moving to streaming platforms.

In a statement to Deadline, the new CEO said: “We’ll be watching to see the reopening of theatres and consumer sentiment in terms of going back to theatre,” While the film is currently slated to release on May 7, there is still a chance it could be delayed further, or even become the first blockbuster movie of the year if it releases in May! In the much-awaited series, Scarlett Johansson is set to reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff, she is also joined by Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz. This will be the first film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four.

Back in September 2020, Johansson opened up about the theme of the movie in an interview with Empire. Johansson spoke candidly about the feminist themes in Black Widow. “I think this film, in particular, is very much reflective of what’s going on in regards to the Time’s Up movement and the #MeToo movement,” Scarlett disclosed. The 35-year-old actress felt that it would be such a miss if they didn”t address that stuff and take that head-on. Moreover, the Oscar-nominated star shared with Empire that for Black Widow director Cate Shortland, it was so important to make a movie about “women who are helping other women, who lift other women up out of a very difficult situation.”
