Chris Harrison Apologizes After Defending Bachelor Contestants Problematic Past — Interview With Rachel Lindsay Goes Viral

Chris Harrison s offering mea culpa after an interaction between him and Rachel Lindsay went viral. The host of the Bachelor Nation franchise was dragged after he defended a Bachelor contestant’s problematic past.

Before you get into why Harrison is in trouble you need to know about contestant Rachael Kirkconnell vying for Matt James’ heart. A woman went viral on Tik-Tok for accusing her of making fun of her in school for dating Black men.

It only gets worse from there.

Rachael was caught liking photos of friends standing in front of the confederate flag in addition to attending an ‘old south’ themed party in 2018.

While talking to Rachel Lindsay on Extra, Chris stated: ‘I saw a picture of her at a sorority party five years ago and that’s it. Like, boom. Like, ‘OK. Well, this girl is in this book now. And she’s now in this group.’

He also asked for people to give her ‘grace.’

He went on to say that he’s not defending her, although he was, and explained that it’s not a good look in 2021 which is different than 2018. He added that she was 18 in the photos when she was actually 21.

The problem was that while Rachel explained why her celebrating the old south was wrong, Harrison kept speaking about how things are different in 2021 than they were in 2018.

When Lindsay also brought up the point that there’s nothing in her contract that keeps her from speaking on these allegations, he had an excuse for that too.

‘The woke police is out there. And this poor girl Rachael, who has just been thrown to the lions, I don’t know how you are equipped when you have never done this before, to be woke enough, to be eloquent enough, to be ready to handle this.’

The conversation made its rounds on social media and many people were unpleased with Chris.

He took to Instagram to apologize to Bachelor Nation and Rachel Lindsay.

‘To my Bachelor Nation family — I will always own a mistake when I make one, so I am here to extend a sincere apology. have this incredible platform to speak about love, and yesterday I took a stance on topics about which I should have been better informed. While I do not speak for Rachael Kirkconnell, my intentions were simply to ask for grace in offering her an opportunity to speak on her own behalf. What I now realize I have done is cause harm by wrongly speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism, and for that I am so deeply sorry. I also apologize to my friend Rachel Lindsay for not listening to her better on a topic she has a first-hand understanding of, and humbly thank the members of Bachelor Nation who have reached out to me to hold me accountable. I promise to do better.’

Hopefully, Chris will keep his promise of doing better.
