Over 7.86 lakh people in India have been administered the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the health ministry. There have been four deaths among those vaccinated — three due to cardiac arrest and not linked to the vaccination and one was still being analysed, a Health Ministry official said.

All in all, States have reported 82 adverse events following immunisation and while 10 of them have merited hospitalisation, seven have been discharged and none grave enough to be recorded as a “serious/severe AEFI”. The deaths were reported from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh; Bellary and Shivamogga, Karnataka and Nirmal, Telangana.

Bharat Biotech seeks emergency use approval for vaccine in Philippines

Bharat Biotech submitted on Thursday an application for the emergency use of its COVID-19 vaccines in the Philippines, Food and Drug Administration chief Rolando Enrique Domingo said.

Bharat Biotech, which has developed COVAXIN with the Indian Council of Medical Research, is the fourth vaccine maker to apply for emergency use in the Philippines. – Reuters

Co-WIN glitches slow down COVID-19 vaccination efforts in Karnataka

The COVID-19 vaccination drive was either halted or slowed down in several hospitals across Bengaluru, Karnataka on Wednesday as glitches in the Co-WIN app persisted.

However, Karnataka continued to have the highest number of healthcare workers vaccinated in the country. Of the 1.12 lakh healthcare workers vaccinated in total, 36,211 were from the State.

 

India records 15,223 new cases

India’s COVID-19 caseload crossed 1.06 crore with a total of 15,223 infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries have surged to 1,02,65,70, according to the Union health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The total cases have increased to 1,06,10,883. The death toll mounted to 1,52,869 with 151 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 a.m. showed. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,02,65,706 pushing the national COVID-19 recovery rate of 96.75%.The COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.44%.

The COVID-19 active caseload remained below 3 lakh. There are  1,92,308 active coronavirus infections in the country which  comprises 1.81% of the total caseload, the data stated. – PTI

 

Fertility clinics see rush with start of COVID-19 vaccination

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic and with two vaccines now available, fertility clinics in the national capital claim that the rush is back with walk-in patients having more than doubled as compared to December 2019.

Infertility expert and founder of Seeds of Innocence Gauri Agarwal said patients who had been waiting during the lockdown are now coming and looking to start the treatment.

“There is, however, an additional pressure on IVF clinics to ensure screening of donors due to the threat of COVID-19. We are following a strict screening protocol, including RT-PCR test and on-day pick up,” said Dr. Gauri.
