Deepak Hooda, the Baroda cricketer, has been suspended by the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) for this entire domestic season. The decision was taken on Thursday (January 21) by the apex council amidst opposition by some of the members.
The right-handed batsman has been suspended by the board for the ongoing domestic season. The board members, especially senior officials had not taken the decision of Deepak Hooda very nicely and had expressed their anger in the media. The decision will stay for some time now at least.
Deepak Hooda Angered Baroda Association After Spat With Krunal Pandya
Deepak Hooda had angered the BCA by walking out of the team on the eve of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament after a spat with captain Krunal Pandya.
“The apex council decided that Hooda won’t be considered to represent the Baroda team for the current domestic season. The decision was taken after considering reports from team manager and coach about the incident as well as communication with Hooda,” said Satyajit Gaekwad, chairman, BCA press and publicity committee.
Deepak Hooda won’t be able to participate in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament as well any upcoming domestic competition in the season.
“Hooda can again play for Baroda for the 2021-22 season,” Gaekwad told TOI.
BCA joint secretary, Parag Patel said, ” Deepak Hooda did the wrong thing by walking out of the team without discussing his issues with the management. But banning him for the entire season was unnecessary. He could have been reprimanded for his act and then allowed to play.”
Deepak Hooda, who was appointed as vice-captain of Baroda for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 competition this season, had abruptly quit the team and left the hotel after a verbal altercation with Krunal Pandya on January 9. He later dashed off an email to the BCA management and accused Krunal Pandya of abusing him during the practice session.

Yusuf Pathan Dropped From Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Squad Of Baroda But Baroda Entered Knockout Stage Unbeaten With 5 Victories
Baroda last won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the 2013-14 season. In the next 6 editions, the side has managed to reach the final just once. All-rounder Yusuf Pathan was dropped from the squad at the age of 38 and the possibility of a comeback looks pretty bleak at this point in time.
The all-rounder has represented Baroda since the year 2007 and is the second-highest run-scorer for the two-time champions in the all-time list. Yusuf Pathan has aggregated 1244 runs in the tournament at an average of 28.27. He also boasts of a good strike rate of 133.47 in the T20 tournament in a career that has lasted more than a decade.
In the 2019-20 edition of the tournament, he had done a reasonable job with the bat scoring 136 runs in the tournament at an average of 34.00.
Baroda headed into the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy knockout stage with five straight victories in Elite Group C as the team remained unbeaten with 20 points in the bag.
