Shreyas Iyer sustained a freakish injury during the first ODI against England at Pune. During the run chase, Iyer attempted diving save which resulted in him badly hurting his shoulder. He straightaway went off the field and didn’t take any further part in the match. Yesterday it was revealed that Iyer will miss the remainder of the ODI series and is also doubtful for the upcoming IPL 2021 season.

It is believed that Shreyas Iyer’s scan reports have shown a tear which may force him to go for surgery. If this happens than Iyer will certainly miss the entire IPL 2021 season which will be a big blow for the Delhi Capitals. Now, Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal has hinted that Iyer will be missing the IPL 2021 season. Iyer has done a commendable job as the skipper of DC and even led them to their first-ever final in the last IPL season.

Shreyas Iyer Likely To Miss The Entire IPL 2021 Season

“Absolutely devastated and gutted for our skipper @ShreyasIyer15 – stay strong captain – hope for a very quick recovery. Have full faith that you will come back even stronger from this. India needs you in the T20 World Cup ” Jindal tweeted.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will now have to find a new captain for the upcoming IPL 2021 season. As per few reports Rishabh Pant might be handed the job because of his sensational form for team India in the last few months. The franchise can also think about making Steve Smith or Ajinkya Rahane the captain as they have experience of leading an IPL team.

As far as Shreyas Iyer is concerned the injury came at the worst possible time for him as he was peaking as a batsman. He impressed everyone in the T20I series against England and was expected to continue that in IPL 2021 for the Delhi Capitals. Unfortunately now Iyer will have to wait for his chance to play again after he fully recovers from his shoulder injury.
