The Emirates Cricket Board on Tuesday announced the launch of an IPL style six-team T20 league of its own to be held in the months of December-January (2021-2022). Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, a powerful minister in the UAE Government, and also the chairman of the ECB has welcomed the new league which has received a lot of interest from many parties across the world and particularly in India.

Two years back, The Emirates Cricket Board had almost come close to starting a tournament of four IPL franchises – Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, and another franchise. The launch of the tournament was put to hold in spite of the UAE officials arriving in Mumbai to discuss the tournament keenly. But this time, UAE was very clear in launching the six-team tournament.

Emirates Cricket Board Plans To Compete With World’s Best Leagues

Mubashir Usmani, the general secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board, has planned to finalize the stakeholders within a month and then decide the modalities of the tournament. He added that the Salary cap for the players will be high in order to set a high standard with the world’s best leagues if not like the IPL standard. This will be a great opportunity for the people to witness a league of high class in some of the best stadiums in the world.

“That is our plan. We will complete the whole process of ownership in a month and then sit with them and decide the modalities of the tournament, “It will be done in consultation with the owners but the plan is to match it with the best of the leagues in the world, if not the IPL standards,” Usmani said.

Dr. Tayeb Kamali Delighted By Cricket Growth In UAE

Dr. Tayeb Kamali, ECB board member and selection committee chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board was delighted by the launch of their own T20 league and emphasized the growth of cricket in the nation producing a lot more talented players.

UAE has improvised vastly on the standards of international cricket with their grounds becoming a cricket hub. Conducting a tournament like IPL in UAE this year in the tough times is a massive achievement for the nation already.

“We see this League as another premier addition to our growing tournament calendar.
