The Avengers’ Civil War may be in the rearview, but that doesn’t mean that all of Marvel’s heroes are ready to play nice. The first trailer for Marvel’s next Disney+ series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, reveals that Captain America’s best friends, Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), aren’t as close with each other as they were with Chris Evans’s retired super-soldier. And other people are most definitely taking notice. “Mr. Barnes, why does Sam aggravate you?” a mediator asks in the first scene of the show’s Super Bowl spot. Bucky’s glare is worth a thousand words. (Watch the trailer above.)
Over the course of the two-minute trailer, we get a good sense of why these two aren’t getting along. With Steve Rogers having retired and left his signature shield to Sam, the younger man is wrestling with the weight of that vibranium symbol. Meanwhile, Bucky is the kind of (winter) soldier who likes to have a battle plan — an approach that his freewheeling winged partner doesn’t necessarily appreciate. Not that he’d admit to that. “Buck, I have a plan,” Sam insists in the midst of an explosion-heavy action sequence. “Oh yeah? What is it!” Bucky yells back.
A dynamic duo they ain’t… but they’ve gotta get their act together soon, because Civil War architect Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) is back and still eager to rid the world of superheroes. “I have no intention to leave my work unfinished,” he muses, and he’s not alone in the fight — Zemo’s backed by an army of allies all over the world. Luckily, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier have an ace up their sleeve in the form of former super-agent Sharon Carter (Emily Van Camp), niece of Cap’s lifelong love and S.H.I.E.L.D. superstar Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), who fights the bad guys.. .and keeps her partners from fighting each other.
Compared to the slow-burn mystery of Marvel’s first Disney+ series, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier seems like it’ll bring the fireworks audiences traditionally expect from MCU adventures early and often. And the discrepancy between the two series stands out to fans on Twitter — mostly in a good way.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier being as Marvel-y as possible right after WandaVision is gonna be weird but I still can’t wait

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looks like a fun buddy-cop action movie that you get an hour of every week. Can’t wait.

I’d like to thank Marvel for giving me a one week break so I can kind of recover from the WandaVision finale before I start crying over Falcon and the Winter Soldier https://t.co/iDMpzE2BaN

With Loki waiting in the wings, Marvel fans will be able to sample many different flavors of the MCU before 2021 is over.
