Glad Tim Paine Wasn't In Pakistan Team: Kamran Akmal

Kamran Akmal, Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman has come up with an interesting take on Australian skipper Tim Paine’s horror show against Ajinkya Rahane-led Team India in the recently concluded 3rd Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Monday.

Kamran Akmal, who is no stranger to controversies, said that Tim Paine would have been subjected to severe criticism if he represented the Pakistani national team with his current form.

Kamran Akmal: Tim Paine Had A Very Bad Outing And Australia Would Have Been Victorious If They Took Catches

Indian team’s memorable draw at the SCG was hard to swallow for the Tim Paine-led side as the hosts failed to make the most of their opportunities on the final day of the 3rd Test match. Reflecting on Australia’s disappointing performance against Pakistan’s arch-rivals India, Kamran Akmal claimed that Australia would’ve emerged victorious and taken the lead in the four-match Test series if they had managed to take their chances on the final day of the 3rd Test match.

“Australia would have been celebrating a win if they had taken their catches. This did not happen, however. The fielding did not allow this to happen. You can have good and bad days on the field.

“The specialty of the Australian side is that they do not make many mistakes. They made all their mistakes in a single day. Tim Paine had a very bad outing. This happens. Every keeper drops catches but what can we say,” Kamran Akmal was quoted as saying by PakistanCricket.com.

Tim Paine had a nightmarish outing as the Australian skipper dropped as many as three catches on Day 5 of the SCG Test as Hanuma Vihari, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara ensured a draw.

As Tim Paine made a mess of the opportunities given to him by a depleted Indian side without Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav among others, the Australian captain was trolled on social media for his wicketkeeping disaster.

Kamran Akmal: This fighting attitude was their greatest asset

Talking about Australia producing lacklustre performances especially in batting and fielding, the discarded wicketkeeper-batsman of Pakistan also said that he is glad about Tim Paine not playing for the Pakistani national team. Under Tim Paine, India won their maiden Test series in Australia in 2018-19 by 2-1 and it still remains a possibility to repeat the winning margin but India will miss several players to injuries.

“I am glad that Pakistan wasn’t playing there and he wasn’t in a Pakistan team or else they would have said so many things about him. Now, I will see what will be said by those people who have spoken about me at length. It was an interesting Test and the Australian side made a lot of effort. They did not lose hope anywhere in the match that they could not win. This fighting attitude was their greatest asset,” Kamran Akmal added.

Chasing a mammoth target of 407 on Day 5 of the 3rd Test, Ajinkya Rahane-led Team India managed to earn a hard-fought draw mainly due to a gritty 97-run knock from wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.

While Rishabh Pant top-scored for the visitors on Day 5, defensive knocks from Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara, lower-order batsmen Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari also paved the way for India to end the penultimate clash of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a draw.
