England skipper Joe Root has finished ahead of Virat Kohli in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, for the first time since November 2017. Root is now 36 points behind top-ranked Kane Williamson (919) and trails second-placed Steve Smith (891) by eight points. The 30-year-old Englishman’s 218 in the first Test against India in Chennai, has helped him advance two places to the third spot. Root has accumulated 684 runs in three Tests played in the sub-continent recently, with two of the games held in Sri Lanka. Kohli has slipped down one spot to the fifth position, with Marnus Labuschagne occupying the fourth spot.

Root has accumulated 883 points which is his highest since September 2017 in the Men’s Test Player Rankings. Labuschagne has earned 878 points with 852 ratings points for Kohli. 

Rishabh Pant’s knock of 91 in the first innings of the opening Test against England, has helped him become the first full-time Indian wicketkeeper, to reach 700 rating points. He continues to retain the 13th position among batsmen.

England pacer James Anderson has jumped to the third spot from the sixth position, trailing second-placed Stuart Broad by four points in the bowler’s rankings. Anderson is at his highest ranking since the beginning of the ICC World Test Championship. Australian pacer Pat Cummins leads the bowler’s rankings having accumulated 908 points. 

English cricketer Ben Stokes is on top of the all-rounder’s rankings, with 428 points. Jason Holder and Ravindra Jadeja occupy the second and third spots, with 414 and 410 points respectively.
