ICC Test Rankings: Pakistan Moves Up To 5th Spot After Beating South Africa 2-0 At Home

Pakistan

Pakistan completed a 2-0 whitewash over South Africa in the Test series, as they wrapped up the second Test in Rawalpindi, winning it by 95 runs. This was the first Test series win for Babar Azam as Test captain and it all came due to a collective effort from the batsmen and bowlers.

Babar Azam himself scored a half-century (77) in the 1st innings of the match and with Faheem Ashraf’s (78*) helped Pakistan put on 272 runs. In reply, South Africa only managed 201 as Hasan Ali ran through the Proteas side with figures of 5/35.

In the second do, Mohammad Rizwan hit his maiden Test ton, while Nauman Ali made 45, as Pakistan made 298 and asked South Africa to chase 370 runs. Despite Aiden Markram’s 108 and 61 from Temba Bavuma, South Africa batting couldn’t withstand the pressure of such a huge target and was bundled out for 274, losing the match by 95 runs.

Pakistan now has 90 rating points, while South Africa dropped one spot down to no.6 with 89 rating points. Meanwhile, New Zealand continued to occupy the top spot with 118.44 rating points to their name and India is no.2 with 117.55 rating points.

Both Pakistan and South Africa are out of the race for the finals qualification of the ICC World Test Championship. New Zealand have already qualified for the final, to be played at Lord’s in London. The ongoing India-England series will give us the other team in the final.

Australia also has an outside chance of qualifying if the India-England Test series ends up drawn 0-0, 1-1,  or 2-2.
