India vs England 2021: I Love Batting With Rishabh Pant- Cheteshwar Pujara

Indian Test No.3 Cheteshwar Pujara has said that he loves batting alongside swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant following the duo’s crucial century stand on the third day of the first Test in Chennai.

Pujara and Pant have been involved in three crucial partnerships in the last three Test matches for India. While their 148-run stand in Sydney helped the visitors save the Test, the 61 runs that they accumulated between them in the fourth innings of the Brisbane laid the platform for a famous win.

Watching Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant bat together is a sight to behold as it tells us that one can be equally successful despite having contrasting approaches.

The duo is a cricketing version of yin and yang. While Pujara is like a monk meditating on a cricket field or a classical singer of the bygone era, Pant is like a modern-day rapper, a rockstar, an aggressive in your face personality, who likes to fight fire with fire.

The duo was once again at the heart of India’s revival of sorts as they stitched a 119-run-stand for the 5th wicket after the home side had lost its four main batsmen for a mere 73 runs.

Speaking about his experience of batting alongside Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara said-

“When a batter is going after the bowlers from one end and if I am around, we always have a chat between the overs. There is a good left combination which also frustrates the bowlers. We have batted enough now, talking about the last tour in Australia, the way Rishabh bats against spinners, he likes to take them on,” Pujara said in a video shared by the BCCI

“Its been a crucial partnership for us and I hope this continues because I love batting with him and if I can be of any help, if I can speak to him at times where what are the shots he can play and which shots he can avoid at times, he just has to do it,” he added.

Rishabh Pant has now smashed three half-centuries in his last four innings. Pujara said that he is very happy with the way the 23-year-old is playing but added that he still needs to learn a few more things like putting his team in a commanding position and converting 90s into 100s.

‘Very happy with the way he is playing. He still has to learn few more things. He still has to put the team in a commanding position because he is capable of that and he is missing out on hundreds. But I am sure he will learn from this but its good that he is in form,” he said.

The 119-run-stand between Pujara and Pant was broken by Dom Bess in a freakish manner after the former’s attempted pull ricochet from Ollie Pope’s shoulder to go straight in the hands of Rory Burns at mid-wicket.
