India vs England 2021: If You Look At My Last 10-15 Tests You Will Find Some Runs There – Ajinkya Rahane Replies To Criticism Of His Form

India’s Test vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, was quick to quiet down all the questions and doubts over his form with the bat ahead of the second Test against England on Saturday.

Rahane has, once again, come under scrutiny for the lack of runs of late. After his match-winning, perhaps series-changing, hundred in Melbourne against Australia he has scores of 22, 4, 37, 24, 1, and 0 leading up to the second Chennai Test.

When asked about whether he or the management was concerned over his form with the bat, Ajinkya Rahane said that their focus is always on the collective growth and not on any particular individual. The right-hander also points out that he has had scores, in fact, hundreds, if people put in the effort to look at his numbers in the last 10-15 matches and not just the last 2-3 games.

“We are playing at home after two years. It’s all about the team, not about any individual. If you look at my last 10-15 Tests, you will find some runs there,” Ajinkya Rahane said while speaking in the press conference on the eve of the second Test.

The 32-year-old does know his numbers well enough – in his last 15 Tests Rahane averages 45 with the bat, which is more than his career average and has struck 3 centuries and 5 half-centuries in that period.

Good to have Axar Patel fit: Ajinkya Rahane

Axar Patel is all but confirmed to make his Test debut in the second Test. While Rahane denied confirming the playing eleven, he said that the team was happy to have Patel fit.

The Gujarat all-rounder is almost certain to replace Shahbaz Nadeem – this could also mean that Kuldeep Yadav could get a chance in the playing eleven after more than 2 years since picking the 5-wicket haul in Sydney.

“Every player is in the mix. Good to have Axar Patel fit. I’m not going to say who is going to play in the second Test. All our spinners are good and I’m sure they’re keen to do well,” the vice-captain added.
