India vs England 2021: Tamil Nadu Releases T Natarajan On BCCI’s Request To Keep Him Fresh For England White-Ball Series

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has been requested by the BCCI and the Indian national cricket team management to relieve left-arm pacer T Natarajan from their squad for the upcoming 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy. This was done as the Indian team wants the fast bowler to be fresh for the upcoming white-ball series against England.

T Natarajan had the dream year 2020, as he rose to fame with his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which was played in the UAE. He turned out for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise and picked 16 wickets in 16 matches. T Natarajan was then named in the India T20I squad for Australia after Varun Chakravarthy was ruled out due to a shoulder injury.

Natarajan then made his T20I debut on the Australia tour and was extremely successful and was asked to stay back for the ODIs as well, as Shardul Thakur suffered from some niggles. He picked two wickets on his ODI debut, helping India win the match. Natarajan was then added to the Indian Test squad as a net bowler.

However, with constant injuries suffered by Indian bowlers throughout the four-match Test series, T Natarajan made his Test debut in Brisbane and picked 3 wickets in the first innings. Overall, he returned from Australia as a hero and was rested from the England Test series to manage his workload.

BCCI and India team management want T Natarajan fresh for the England white-ball series: TNCA secretary S Ramasamy

India is set to play five T20Is and three ODIs against England from March 12, in Ahmedabad and Pune respectively. And hence the team management wants T Natarajan fresh for the said matches, as it wants to manage the workload of main fast bowlers, who participated in the Test series.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team management want him fresh. It is in the national interest and so we are ready to oblige,” the TNCA official said. “We had named a replacement should he be not available and that issue has been sorted out. We have released Natarajan,” TNCA secretary S Ramasamy confirmed the request.

Before Ramaswamy, Kasi Viswanathan had also talked about the same request by BCCI to release T Natarajan from the Tamil Nadu squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

“That is what we have heard. We have not got a request in writing but we understand that the team management wants him to get ready by practicing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The secretary is looking into it. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) will take the right decision,” Vishwanathan had told Cricbuzz.

The thinking behind the team management’s request is that the left-arm pacer should not be put through two stages of quarantine – one for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and another before entering the Team India bubble.
