Indian captain Virat Kohli has broken and created a lot of records both as a batsman and as a leader during his stellar career but on Saturday, the champion batsman suffered the ignominy of an unwanted record.

The charismatic Indian batsman registered his 26th duck across all three formats in the first innings of the ongoing Test against England at the Chepauk. As a captain, this was Virat’s 12 duck and he has now leapfrogged former captain, MS Dhoni, to become the Indian skipper with the second-highest numbers of ducks in international cricket.

While MS Dhoni registered 11 ducks in 330 international innings during his reign as India’s captain, Virat Kohli has now been dismissed on 0 on 12 occasions in the 221 innings he’s batted as captain. That said, Kohli has also scored as many as 11894 runs at an average of 62.60 with the help of 48 half-centuries and 41 tons as captain.

As far as the most ducks by an Indian captain is concerned, former skipper Sourav Ganguly holds the numero-uno spot after having registered 13 zeros in 217 innings.

Virat’s latest duck came in the first innings of the second Test against England when It was a perfect off-spinners dismissal for Moeen Ali where he tossed the ball outside the off-stump and forced Virat Kohli to come forward.

The ball turned viciously off the square and went on to hit the leg-stump. Virat was absolutely perplexed as to what had happened and even though it was clear that the ball had gone to hit the stumps, the champion batsman stood there in utter shock.

As expected, the English team started celebrating but Virat Kohli for some reason stood his ground as the umpire went upstairs for confirmation. And, it took the 3rd Umpire just one replay to ascertain that the ball had indeed knocked over Virat’s stumps. This was also the first time that Virat had been dismissed for a duck by a spinner in international cricket.
