Everyone must have learned this phrase indeed in school/college, “A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” Today, on this auspicious occasion of International Families Day, we intend to learn more about the history and its start.

History
Family is the compass that guides us when we are lost. It instills hope and motivation in us. The needs of each family are different from one another. In 1983, the UN (United Nations) tended to put more focus and importance on their needs. A lot of emphasis was put on this issue, and the UN and the help of its departments such as the Economic and Social Council and Commission for Social Development aimed to learn more about the wants of families of every kind. In April 1985, the General Assembly included discussing’ Families in the Developmental Process’; this was recommended by the council mentioned above. The main aim of this was to focus on some critical family problems and how the UN can help to solve these. In 1989, it was announced that May 15th of every year would be celebrated as the ‘International Day of Families.’
Concept in 2021
Each family has its fair share of problems, but as per the saying, “Families are like branches of a tree. We grow differently, but our roots remain the same.” This year’s concept for International Families Day is based on technology. The term ‘Families and new technologies’ is given because technology has improved massively and can cause problems amongst families in this day and age. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, technology has taken the spotlight. The main objective for this year’s concept was to see how families get affected by megatrends such as urbanisation, globalisation, shifting, rising, and fall of the economy. Such things tend to cause disorientation amongst families, so such initiatives are much needed for family bonding and helping them maintain happiness and live in harmony. It is rightly said, “Other things might change, but we start, and we end with family.”
Significance
Such initiatives for International Families Day are much needed in this day and age, as the world is suffering due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the time for families to have a good time with each other, bond with their loved ones, and be safe in their respective homes. Family dynamics kept evolving in this day and age, and the problems amongst family members have also increased. To reduce such petty issues, International Families day is much more of a concept that can be followed quickly.
