IPL 2021: BCCI Confident Of Hosting IPL In India Along With Crowd In The Stadium

A piece of very welcoming news for fans in India is that not only the IPL 2021 is all but confirmed to staged in India, but also that spectators could be allowed – partially though – in the stadium for the matches.

Last year, after being delayed due to the lockdown, the IPL was conducted, but in UAE owing to the travel restriction in India and the rising COVID-19 cases. All the matches in the UAE – in stadiums in Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi – took place behind closed doors, that is, without fans in the stadium.

However, now as the covid situation has improved in India – and the national team is currently hosting the England side – the mega-event is nigh-certain to be held in its home country.

IPL 2021 could see a huge number of fans in the stadium

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official in the know of developments has informed the sources that the official decision regarding the venues will be taken at the IPL General Council meeting, which is slated for 18th February after the mini-auction in Chennai.

“In the last few days, a lot of positives have happened. With the Covid-19 situation improving every passing day, one thing is certain now that IPL 2021 will happen in India and we are sure to have fans in the stadium. The official decision about dates, venues, and other aspects will be taken at IPL GC meeting after auctions on Feb-18,” BCCI official told InsideSport.co.

The same person also gave confidence that if the ongoing series between India and England goes smoothly without any hiccups, then there is a good chance that the Sourav Ganguly-led board will seek permission to have the fans inside stadiums in massive numbers.

In the second Test in Chennai 15,000 spectators were allowed, given that they follow the covid protocols and the ball had to be sanitized every time it is sent in the crowd by the batsman.

“If the England series with fans goes off without any mishaps, then BCCI will hold the IPL allowing fans in stadia. We will see if the matches will be organized at limited venues – all of those decisions will be taken over the next few days.” the official further added.
