Javed Akhtar defamation case: Kangana Ranaut summoned by Mumbai Court, calls herself ‘lioness’ among ‘pack of jackals’

A Mumbai court on Monday, February 1, issued summons to actor Kangana Ranaut after the city police informed it that an offence of defamation, as alleged by lyricist Javed Akhtar against the actor, is made out and further probe into it is required.

Reacting to it, Kangana Ranaut took to Twitter and stated that she is a ‘lioness’ among a ‘pack of jackals’. “Geedaron ka ek jhund aur ek sherni… mazaa aayega (A pack of jackals and a lioness… this will be fun),” she wrote.

The Andheri metropolitan magistrate in December 2020 directed the Juhu police to conduct an inquiry into the complaint of defamation filed by Akhtar against Ranaut before the court in November last year.

Magistrate R R Khan, after perusing the report, issued summons to Kangana Ranaut.

The court posted the matter for hearing on March 1, 2021.

Akhtar’s advocate Jay Kumar Bharadwaj told the court that the police last month issued summons to Ranaut, asking her to remain present before the police for recording her statement.

Javed Akhtar, in his complaint, alleged that Kangana Ranaut had made defamatory comments against him in an interview, by dragging his name while referring to a “coterie” existing in Bollywood, following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June last year.

The lyricist in his plea claimed that the “baseless comments” made by Ranaut had caused damage to his reputation.

Last month, on Sushant’s birth anniversary, Kangana said that powerful people of Bollywood had ‘tortured’ him. She regretted assuming he was ‘strong enough’ to take on them on his own and not coming out in his support when he was alive. “Dear Sushant, movie mafia banned you bullied you and harassed you, many times on social media you asked for help and I regret not being there for you. I wish I didn’t assume you are strong enough to handle mafia torture on your own. I wish … Happy Birthday dear one #SushantDay,” she wrote on Twitter.
