Kangana Ranaut, Sister, Summoned Thrice, move HC to quash Mumbai Police’s FIR

Actor Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel have filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, seeking to cancel a First Information Report (FIR) registered against them. The sisters have been asked to appear before Bandra police on November 23 and 24 respectively over their “objectionable comments” on social media that allegedly were “aimed at spreading communal tension”.

This is the third time that the actress and her sister have been summoned by the police. They were earlier asked to be present on October 26 and 27 respectively. Later, the Bandra police had issued the second notice to Kangana Ranaut and Rangoli Chandel on November 3 and ordered them to appear before it on November 9 and 10 respectively.

In response to this, Kangana Ranaut’s lawyer informed police that she was busy with a family wedding in Himachal Pradesh and will be available only after November 15.

Now the actress has appealed to High Court to quash the FIR all together.

For those unaware with the matter, last month, the Bandra metropolitan magistrate’s court had ordered police to investigate a complaint filed by a Bollywood casting director and fitness trainer Munawwar Ali Sayyed, referring to the tweets and other statements of Ranaut and her sister.

The Bandra police subsequently registered an FIR against Ranaut and her sister under various sections of the law, such as promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, deliberate acts hurting religious sentiments, sedition and common intention.
