The actress has been known for supposedly being really difficult to work with for a long time and now, she is opening up about that reputation and how it’s affected her mentally. In a brand new interview for The Washington Post, Katherine Heigl discussed being shunned by Hollywood and how the harsh criticism caused her to think, at the time, that she ‘would rather be dead.’
According to the Grey’s Anatomy star, the public’s opinion on her started to change drastically when she began to speak up about some of the projects she was working on.

‘I may have said a couple of things you did not like, but then that escalated to ‘she is ungrateful,’ then that escalated to ‘she is difficult’ and that escalated to ‘she is unprofessional’… What’s your definition of difficult? Someone with an opinion you don’t like? Now, I’m 42, and that s**t pisses me off,’ she shared with the news outlet.
Katherine went on to recall that the more she apologized for speaking in a negative manner about those projects she was involved with, the more it seemed like it was she who ‘had really done something horribly wrong.’
James Marsden, who stared alongside Heigl on 27 Dresses, told WaPo that she truly did have all the good intentions at the time: ‘She has very strong convictions and strong opinions on certain things, and she doesn’t back down from you know if she feels like she’s been wrong in any way. I have always seen it as strength of character. Can see how that can get construed as being difficult or ungrateful. But if you know Katie, it is simply because she has courage to stand behind something she believes in.’

And that was not all! Her husband, Josh Kelley even stated that, as far as he is concerned, Katherine would be considered ‘a hero’ if she spoke up now rather than a decade ago, when things in the industry were so different.
The biggest problem is how the hate affected the actress mentally, something she mentioned as well.
‘I asked my mom and my husband to find me somewhere to go that could help me because I felt like I would rather be dead,’ she recalled.
Her anxiety was apparently so bad that she really needed to get help before it could push her to do something irreversible.
