Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma tests COVID-19 positive, under home isolation

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said that he has tested positive for COVID-19. He also asked people who came in touch with him recently to get themselves tested, if necessary.Taking to Twitter, the chief minister said he was undergoing home isolation.

“I have tested positive for #Covid_19. I am under home isolation and experiencing mild symptoms. I request all those who came in contact with me in the past 5 days to kindly keep a watch on their health and if necessary get tested. Stay safe,” he tweeted.

Two of Sangma’s cabinet colleagues — Health Minister AL Hek and Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar — were diagnosed with the infection in October. Both of them have recovered.

Meghalaya has registered 12,586 COVID-19 patients so far. The death of a 68-year-old COVID-19 positive man, with other ailments at Dalu, West Garo Hills took the number of fatalities due to the pandemic to 123, while 75 fresh cases of infection added up to 580 active cases in Meghalaya on Thursday. Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War informed that new Covid-19 cases reported as on Thursday included 57 in East Khasi Hills district, five in West Jaintia Hills district, three each in West Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district, two each in East Garo Hills district and South West Khasi Hills district and one each in Ri-Bhoi district, South West Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district.

East Khasi Hills, including Shillong, is the most affected district in the State with 334 active COVID-19 cases and 100 deaths due to the viral infection till date, followed by West Garo Hills with 94 active cases and 15 fatalities.

Meanwhile, India’s active caseload has significantly dropped to 3.63 lakh, the lowest after 146 days, which is 3.71 per cent of the total number of infections, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday.
