England all-rounder Sam Curran was unfortunate to end up on the losing side despite single-handedly taking the fight to India in the third ODI in Pune. Sam Curran was amongst the two players to score a half-century in England’s mighty chase of 330 in the series decider. The bowling all-rounder stated that even though they could not win the match, he felt happy with the way he played.

Sam Curran, who has shared the new ball in all three ODIs, has not been consistent enough with it as he has shown only patches of brilliance. Curran’s selection in the T20s also came under scrutiny since he had not done anything exceptional with the bat or ball. The 22-year old has taken only two wickets in three games and was impressive only in the first, finishing with figures of 10-1-48-1.

But Sam Curran kept England in the hunt for a heist win until the final over. Even as the tourists lost Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, and Moeen Ali after promising knocks, Sam Curran batted brilliantly with the tail. The Northampton-born cricketer shared partnerships of 60 and 57 with Adil Rashid and Mark Wood, respectively, to take England closer. But with no support at the other end, Curran’s task was steep and he fell seven runs short of a win and stayed unbeaten on 95.

Sam Curran highlighted that he felt disappointed with England’s loss; however, he is delighted to have played well. The youngster revealed that the dugout asked him to take the game deep and retain the strike as much as possible. He credited T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and believes that playing at this level is a massive learning curve. Curran stated he is excited to head to the IPL next and attributed it for giving him confidence.

“We didn’t win the game, but happy with the way I played. I haven’t done something like that for a while especially for England. Disappointed with the finish. I had a few messages from the dug-out as well: try to bat deep and try to take most of the strike. Fair play to Natarajan – he had six deliveries there and showed why he’s a good bowler. I knew that one side is shorter and Bhuvi is an outstanding bowler. As I said, a massive learning curve for me, but disappointed at the end. Again, it’s a learning series with the ball and feel like it has given me a lot of confidence for the IPL and next IPL. Going straight there [CSK] for the IPL,” Sam Curran said in the post-match presentation.
