The break proved to be a game-changer for the Hyderabad pacer, who worked on his bowling and fine-tuned his skills.

In his debut Test series, he led the Indian pace attack in the absence of seniors like Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah who were in injured at different junctures of Test series and repaid the faith shown in him by the team management. He even spearheaded pace attack in 4th Test in which India played without any frontline bowler.

“I knew this was going to be a crucial season for me as I had not done that well in the IPL last year. Hence, during the lockdown, I worked harder on my bowling. I did a lot of practice by bowling at a single stump,” Mohammed Siraj was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Playing his maiden Test series for the visitors in Australia, Mohammed Siraj finished as the highest wicket-taker for India with 13 scalps to his name from three Test matches. He played an instrumental role in helping India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by clinching the 4 match Test series 2-1.

Mohammed Siraj Thanked RCB Skipper Virat Kohli For Telling Him To Bowl Consistent Line And Length

Mohammed Siraj, who had become the first bowler to bowl two maiden overs in a spell in IPL during last season, also credited India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, Virat Kohli, for continuously guiding and supporting him in his journey. He picked 11 wickets in 9 IPL games in IPL 2020 averaging 21.45 for RCB.

“Virat bhai told me that I had it within me to do well. He kept telling me to bowl a consistent line and length. I just tried doing it. Earlier, I had put a lot of pressure on myself but this season, I learnt to relax and let the ball do the work,” Mohammed Siraj stated.
