Mohammed Siraj Was Called ‘Brown Dog’ & ‘Black Monkey’ By Australian Spectators: BCCI Official

As per reports in PTI, a BCCI official has said that Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was called Brown Dog and Black Monkey by a group of Australian spectators who passed racist comments on him and Jasprit Bumrah after the end of the day’s play on day 3. The BCCI on their part lodged an official complaint regarding the incident upon which their Australian counterparts have even apologised to their great friends the BCCI and its players. 

Mohammed Siraj was hurled abuses just before the tea break as the game was halted for 10 to 12 minutes. Siraj complained of racial attack from a section of the crowd, leading to the expulsion of some spectators and an unreserved apology from the host board.

Ugly Words Used Against Mohammed Siraj: BCCI Official

Siraj was abused by the SCG crowd after Cameron Green hit back to back sixes in his over. Standing at the deep, he then complained the onfield umpire against the crowd hurling abuses at him. This is when the entire Indian team got together and complained the same to the field umpire who then asked the security guards to remove six spectators from the stadium.

“Siraj was referred to as ‘Brown Dog’ and ‘Big Monkey’ both of which are racist slurs. The matter was immediately brought to the notice of on-field umpires. They were constantly abusing Bumrah too,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The Indian players brought up the issue to the match officials only after the day’s play on Saturday and by then the culprits had left the stadium. 

Players Decided To Report The Incident After The Day’s Play: BCCI Official

“Actually, the players didn’t want to lose focus during the proceedings and decided that the matter would be reported only after the day’s play was over. However, umpires have told us that moment anything of that nature happens, the players should report immediately,” the source added.

In their statement, Cricket Australia has offered full support and commitment to punish the culprits of the incident. 

Meanwhile, India are trailing by 309 runs in the second innings chasing a target of 407. Meanwhile, Australia will be eyeing to pick the last eight wickets to win the Test match and take a lead in the series.
