More RPG like Assassin’s Creed game to be expected from Ubisoft?

Assassins Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed is a title established back in 2007, with its first game of the same title where players would get a chance to explore historical Palestine during the Crusades. It is the successor of the famous early 2000’s Prince of Persia game which showed Ubisoft the love of people towards slowly emerging Open-world games.

Over the years, Assassin’s Creed game has been through many changes and has explored different historical settings of the world in the most immersive manner as possible. Following the initial success of the first game Assassin’s Creed 2 went on to explore Renaissance Italy as the franchise’s most favored character Ezio Auditore da Firenze and continued with the same character for their next two games. Till the introduction of Assassin’s Creed 3 which focused on the American Revolution from the viewpoint of a Native American.

A similar kind of gameplay continued till its 9th Edition, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate in 2015. Assassin’s Creed had made several changes throughout each game including graphics and some aspects of playstyle in these games, but the basic gameplay mechanics always focused around the core mechanics given in the first game, including wall climbing, Assassination, Movement Style.

Then came Assassin’s Creed Origins after a break of one year from the Ubisoft team on the franchise after the massive failure of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. This new game provided a setting of Ptolemaic Egypt, had a beautiful map and most importantly the gameplay had taken a complete 180-degree turn from what it used to be. Now it was more like some RPG like Horizon Zero Dawn, 2014 than the previous Assassin’s Creed titles. But Origins received positive reviews from the gaming community despite being totally different than what Assassin’s Creed Community is used to.

Since, the release of Origins two new titles have surfaces, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey which explores Ancient Greece and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla which explores the war between the Vikings and England, exploring the vast nation of England and northern regions. These two games follow the similar gameplay style of Origins but are quite different overall as they look more RPG style than ever before. Every new Assassin’s Creed game makes it more like an RPG which has made the fans question the direction Ubisoft is heading towards the franchise.

With more RPG elements and mythological storyline fans are worried about the old Assassin’s Creed game which dwelled on the history of the actual events, and how much of the RPG element is good for the franchise. Odyssey introduced dialogue selection and character selection, while Valhalla took a few steps further with their Character Customization and Dark Souls like menu system.

The maps of the new game are undoubtedly beautiful with the captivating story but the emerging RPG content and stories becoming more mythological is becoming a concern for some AC fans. Some even suggest the new RPG like gameplay would be suitable for a completely different title on its own. None the less the new games in the series have been profitable for Ubisoft so we can expect more RPG style Assassin’s Creed in the future as well.
