Mumbai police questions Kangana Ranaut, sister for 2 hours at Bandra police station

Actor Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel, today (January 8) reached the Bandra police station at 1.30 pm. They were questioned for two hours in a sedition case that has been filed against them.

The Bombay High Court, which has granted them interim protection from arrest, had asked Ranaut and her sister to appear before the Mumbai Police for making objectionable comments on social media aimed at spreading communal tension. Their advocate Rizwan Siddiqui was also accompanying them, said a police officer.

According to sources, they were questioned for only two hours. The Bandra police had prepared a list of questions related to the matter and wanted to record her statements regarding more than 100 tweets that she had put on Twitter. However, all her tweets and video statements have been put on paper based on which questions will be put to her, added the official cited above.

Earlier, Bandra police had sent three summons to the sisters between October and November last year but they did not appear. Ranaut later approached the Bombay High Court which asked her to be present at Bandra police station on January 8 between 12 and 2 pm along with her sister.

The Bandra police had registered the case against Ranaut and her sister in October following a complaint lodged against them for allegedly “trying to create hatred and communal tension” through their posts on social media. The First Information Report was filed against them following orders from a magistrates court in Bandra.
