Original article, September 22, 2020: HMD’s budget Nokia phones aren’t necessarily the go-to option if your country is spoiled for choice, but they certainly do the job well enough. Fortunately, the Nokia brand licensee has more budget goodness up its sleeve with the announcement of the Nokia 2.4 and Nokia 3.4.

The Nokia 3.4 is clearly the more capable device of the two, as the name suggests. It’s one of the first phones powered by the Snapdragon 460 chipset, which brings more powerful CPU cores to the Snapdragon 400 series for the first time. This should theoretically mean you can expect faster loading times for games and apps, faster image processing, and less stutter in day-to-day usage.

The Nokia 3.4 also brings 3GB to 4GB of RAM, 32GB to 64GB expandable storage, a 6.39-inch HD+ LCD screen, and a 4,000mAh battery. Camera duties are handled by a triple rear camera setup (13MP, 5MP ultra-wide, and 2MP depth), and an 8MP camera in a punch-hole cutout.

Rounding out the list of notable features is a Google Assistant button, 10W charging, USB-C, a rear fingerprint scanner, and NFC (but not in Latin America or North America).

The Nokia 2.4 is the latest in HMD’s entry-level smartphone lineup, and it has a couple of upgrades compared to the Nokia 2.3 released almost a year ago. Notable upgrades include a bigger battery (from 4,000mAh to 4,500mAh), a fingerprint scanner, and AI portrait and night modes.

Nokia’s low-end phone also packs a 6.5-inch HD+ screen, a Helio P22 chipset, 2GB to 3GB of RAM, and 32GB to 64GB of expandable storage. Photography is handled by a 13MP+2MP rear pairing and a 5MP selfie shooter. Other notable specs include microUSB connectivity (no USB-C here), NFC, and a Google Assistant button.

Expect to pay €159/$179 for the Nokia 3.4, while the Nokia 2.4 will set you back €119/$139. Both phones will be available in Europe from October 26 in Charcoal, Dust, and Fjord colorways. HMD says the Nokia 2.4 will go on pre-order in the US via Amazon from September 23, while the Nokia 3.4 will hit the country “later this year.”

These aren’t the only gadgets HMD announced, as it also revealed two audio accessories in the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite and the Nokia Wireless Speaker. The true wireless earbuds will set you back €59/$99, and offer IPX7 protection and up to 35 hours of playback with the charging case. Meanwhile, the wireless speaker delivers up to four hours of playback, an integrated mic, and the ability to link two speakers together, for €34.
