Pulwama terror attack 2nd anniversary: Why Pakistan is still fearful of India's stand after the attack

Pulwama terror attack

On February 14, 2019, a powerful explosion rocked a convoy of CRPF personnel, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Jammu and Kashmir,  on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway at Latoomode in Pulwama district. The powerful explosion led to the martyrdom of 40 soldiers. The explosion was triggered by a suicide bomber carrying explosives in a car and the bomber targeted a CRPF convoy in order to inflict maximum damage.

India observes the second anniversary of the cowardly terror attack today and remembers the sacrifice of the brave men who attained martyrdom on February 14, 2020.

Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) claimed responsibility for the dastardly attack and police identified the suicide bomber as 22-year-old Adil Ahmad Dar who officials said joined the Jaish in 2018. Dar drove a Maruti Eeco through one of the alleyways onto the highway and rammed it into the CRPF convoy. The car was packed with IED and the impact of explosion was so huge that the bus was reduced to a mangled heap of metal. It would not be wrong to say that Pulwama terror attack was the bloodiest attack the Valley had witnessed during its 30-year-old insurgency period.

The Modi governmenr responded strongly to the terror attack and allowed the Indian armed forces to chalk out a plan to teach a lesson to the Pakistan-based terror groups.

The Indian Air Force carried out air strikes in Pakistan’s Balakot 12 days after the February 14 attack and totally damaged several Jaish camps in the forest. It is estimated that around 300 terrorists were killed in Balakot airstrike. Since that attack, Pakistan has not yet been able to muster the courage to launch another major terror attack inside Indian territory.
