RHOSLC Star Jen Shah Arrested and Charged With Fraud and Money Laundering After Allegedly Running Telemarketing Scheme That Defrauded Hundreds of Victims Since 2012

Jen Shah has just been arrested.

After allegedly running a telemarketing scam since at least 2012, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member has been taken into custody in Utah and is now facing federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

According to a press release from the Southern District of New York, Jen’s arrest followed an indictment out of federal court in Manhattan, which also included Stuart Smith, who has appeared alongside her on RHOSLC.

“Jennifer Shah, who portrays herself as a wealthy and successful businessperson on ‘reality’ television, and Stuart Smith, who is portrayed as Shah’s ‘first assistant,’ allegedly generated and sold ‘lead lists’ of innocent individuals for other members of their scheme to repeatedly scam. In actual reality and as alleged, the so-called business opportunities pushed on the victims by Shah, Smith, and their co-conspirators were just fraudulent schemes, motivated by greed, to steal victims’ money,” Manhattan U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said in a statement.

The New York Police Department also commented on the scandal, claiming Jen and Stuart scammed “hundreds” of victims over the course of at least nine years.

The report went on to reveal that Jen and Stuart are being accused of running a scheme in which a list of victims’ names are generated and sold to telemarketing companies that would ultimately attempt to sell services to those victims. Jen and Stuart would then make a commission on the apparently fraudulent earnings.

Jen, 47, is facing 30 years behind bars for the fraud conspiracy charge.

Jen’s arrest comes on the heels of another scandal in which she was accused of verbally abusing her former designer, Koa Johnson.

Following the online allegations, Jen denied doing any such thing, telling her fans and followers on Instagram that she does not abuse her staff.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season two is currently in production.
