Ricky Ponting Responds After Virender Sehwag Leads Trolling After Team India Leaves Ex-Australia Skipper Red-faced

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has become the butt of all jokes in the cricket fraternity after his prediction for India’s second innings proved completely wrong. The legendary skipper had predicted that India would not even manage to cross the 200-run mark in the second innings of the ongoing third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Ricky Ponting’s prediction had come when Australia were batting on Sunday. The hosts were 310 runs ahead when a fan asked him: “What is a good score to declare for Australia”. Speaking on Channel7, Ricky Ponting replied:

“310 ahead at the moment but I honestly think India won’t make 200 in the second innings.”

Well, it did not take India long to prove Ricky Ponting wrong and leave him red-faced. Chasing an improbable 407, the visitors were off to a good start with their openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma adding 71 runs for the first wicket before departing in quick succession. India lost their skipper Ajinkya Rahane cheaply on the fifth day to find themselves reeling at 102 for 3.

And just when Ricky Ponting would have been thinking that his prediction might turn out to be true, Rishabh Pant came up with one of his best knocks in the game to turn the game on its head. The southpaw launched a stunning counter assault to help India cross the 200-run mark in the very first session on Monday.

And as soon as India touched the 200-run mark, the Indian cricket fraternity brutally trolled the Australian legend. Not only the fans but some former cricketers trolled the batting great too. The likes of Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer led the trolling on Twitter.

Ricky Ponting responds to trolling:

Ricky Ponting did not take long to react to the trolling he faced on Twitter after his prediction proved completely wrong. The former cricketer took to Twitter to defend himself, saying that the pitch has not deteriorated as much as he expected.

“So much for the prediction of India scoring under 200, this pitch hasn’t deteriorated anywhere near what I was expecting. Like the way Rishabh Pant’s playing, it’s the perfect approach to take in these conditions. And now it’s game on,” wrote Ricky Ponting.
