Rishabh Pant Has Always Been An Exhilarating Player To Watch: Sunil Gavaskar

Rishabh Pant scored 91 of 88 balls and added 119 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara to help India recover from 73 for 4 as they ended day three on 257 for 6. Pant scored his third 90 in India ad he fell short of a well-deserved century. This happened after England piled up 578 in their first innings with Root scoring 218 and getting able support from Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope and Dom Bess and the openers.

Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar opined on Rishabh Pant’s knock during his commentary stint with Star Sports from Chennai. Gavaskar said that Pant is an exhilarating player and praised his attacking style of play.

“He (Pant) has always been an exhilarating player. He can be annoying in the sense we all want to see him carry on and bat because he gives so much enjoyment with the way he plays. What happens with Rishabh Pant is there is always that very thin line between being carefree and careless. Once he realises what is that little line between being carefree and careless, he will be a lot more consistent,” explained Gavaskar on Star Sports.

Before Pant and Pujara’s counter-attacking partnership, Dom Bess picked up 4 for 55 including the wickets of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. Despite India being in a vulnerable position, Pant went all-out against Jack Leach and smashed a few sixes against him at the start of his innings before taking chances against other bowlers. Pant was finally dismissed in the 57th over after taking India past the 200-run mark.

Rishabh Pant has three nineties to his name in Indian conditions and 28 has hit 28 sixes already in his short Test career. However, questions remain on his abilities as a wicketkeeper. Before his heroics with the bat, he missed a stumping chance of Ravichandran Ashwin which made the Indian spinner look at him with glaring eyes.
