Rishabh Pant Hoping To ‘Cross The Line’ In IPL 2021

New Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was a part of the squad that made the IPL 2021 final. pant was named as the skipper of the side in IPL 2021 after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the season with an injured shoulder. He will undergo a surgery for the same on April 8. Reacting to Pant’s appointment, Iyer said that he had no doubt over the team’s decision. Pant was chosen over the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith and Shikhar Dhawan who had prior experience of lading IPL franchises. 

The newly-appointed skipper took to Twitter to thank the management for showing faith in him by appointing him as the skipper for the upcoming season. He thanked all his fans and hoped to cross the line this time around.

Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting said that Pant deserves to lead the franchise looking at his recent performances. Ponting’s remarks came as Pant was announced as Delhi Capitals skipper on Tuesday. Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of IPL 2021 due to a shoulder injury.

“Unfortunate that Shreyas will miss the tournament, but looking forward to seeing @RishabhPant17 grab his opportunity. It’s well deserved for his recent performances and he’s coming in with a lot of confidence. I’m convinced captaincy will make him an even better player,” tweeted Ponting.

Despite having experienced players in the squad, Pant was appointed as the captain for the next season. He is still fresh in international cricket and has no leadership experience. However, he has been a part of the franchise since 2016 and is a crucial member of the outfit. 

Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 10.
