Shahid Kapoor @ 40: 10 songs of his career that touch our hearts

Wednesday 24 February 2021

In his career this actor has had many memorable songs picturised on him that express both heart ache and feelings of tender love.

It is hard to believe but this year Shahid Kapoor is turning 40! With time passing and his choice of work wowing the audiences he is an actor that is finally getting the recognition he deserves. BizAsiaLive.com explores ten songs from his films that touch the heart, to mark his birthday on 25th February.

Bekhayali from ‘Kabir Singh’ (2019)
Sachet Tandon vocals showed the frustration Kabir (Kapoor) was facing. Irshad Kamil’s lyrics were no less in expressing the turmoil Kabir was going through. Kapoor performed brilliantly, the viewer can see how distraught he is unable to move on from his past relationship. While he continues to do his duties and live his life he is suffering terribly. It’s like he is passing time but is unable to free himself from his past love. Kapoor had never been seen in a role like this where his character went on a journey of self destruction.

Haan Aapko Samjha Hai from ‘Shikhar’ (2005)
Ever since Kapoor’s first film his pairing with Amrita Rao has always been loved by the audience. The song begins with Rao’s character Madhvi tending to a wounded Jai (Kapoor). It is during this song that we are able to see how Madhvi has always loved Jai while he remained distant from her. During the song Jai sees how every individual living in the slums is suffering in some way or the other. He is saddened by the conditions and wants to do something to help the people there.

Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam vocals in this song bring out so much emotion, with Sudhakar Sharma’s lyrics revealing the feelings of Jai.

Dekhte Dekhte from ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ (2018)
A masterpiece that was created by the late legend Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. This qawali was given the Bollywood touch with two versions of the song being created, one was in the voice of Atif Aslam while the other was done in the voice of Khan’s nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. In the film Sushil (Kapoor) is seen reminiscing the happier times he spent with Lalita (Shraddha Kapoor) while she behaves like he doesn’t even exist. It is difficult to listen to this song and not shed a tear as the lyrics express the pain of losing someone dear. As in Sushil’s case someone he spent so much time with now no longer is a part of his life and it hurts him.

Mere Bina Tu from ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero’ (2013)
Pritam created the music while Irshad Kamil wrote the lyrics for this melodious number.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Harshdeep Kaur’s soothing vocals went perfectly with the video of the song. Vishwas (Kapoor) and Kajal (Ileana D’ Cruz) can be seen wandering alone in various beautiful outdoor locations. The video was filmed in a simple manner which helps the audience to focus solely on the vocals and the characters melancholy feelings. There’s a perfect balance which is what makes the song even better and Khan’s vocals fit Kapoor really well.

Fakeera from ‘Badmaash Company’ (2010)
In the sounds of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan this song is a lesson for our main character Karan (Kapoor) who had everything in life but lost it due to his greed for more. Karan is smart and if he tried he could achieve greatness. Well with the help of his friends and some tricks under his sleeve he manages to reach great heights. While his friends feel that what they have is enough and don’t desire this life of adventure any more Karan can’t stop himself. This song shows the time Karan has reached the lowest point in his life. He remembers the good moments with his friends and everything he once had compared to now when he’s all alone and working for his uncle.

Bakhuda Tumhi Ho from ‘Kismat Konnection’ (2008)
Hearing this love song one can’t help but feel on top of the world. Atif Aslam’s powerful vocals blow the listener away while Alka Yagnik’s sweet vocals make one fall in love again and again.

Priya (Vidya Balan) and Raj (Kapoor) are seen spending time with one another be it a day out shopping or watching a film. As time progresses Raj’s love for Priya gets more intense and Priya also feels like she’s falling for him. The song maybe a happy one but it expresses love in a deep manner. It’s the realisation that one individual now means the world to them and we can see that in Kapoor’s performance from the way his character cares for Priya.

Ek Dil Ek Jaan from ‘Padmaavat’ (2018)
Deepika Padukone played the role of Ratan Singh’s (Kapoor) second wife Padmavati in the film. Kapoor was appreciated for his role in the film representing a man of honour and truth. He also loved with all his heart. A M Turaz’s lyrics describe the couple’s love beautifully as they have one heart and one life yet they’re willing to sacrifice everything they have for one another. Shivam Pathak sung the song in a calming manner which touches ones soul.

Tum Se Hi from ‘Jab We Met’ (2007)
It’s as though Aditya (Kapoor) is in a dream living everyday of his life with Geet (Kareena Kapoor Khan) by his side. Though she isn’t really there he feels that she is always beside him such is his love for her. Mohit Chauhan and Pritam did wonders with this song bringing out the feelings Aditya has through this song.

Aditya is no longer the same Aditya that was seen in the first half of the film. It is as though he’s been reborn thanks to Geet, now he tries to enjoy every moment as she would.

Ik Tu Hi Tu from ‘Mausam’ (2011)
A melody that touches the soul. In the magical voice of Hans Raj Hans this is a song that one doesn’t just listen to but experiences. The song expresses the pain of separation and the torment that Harinder (Kapoor) and Aayat (Sonam K Ahuja) face during that time.

During the song the audience is able to see Aayat travelling to various locations and trying to survive. On the other side Harinder is restless waiting to hear from Aayat while he fulfils his duties in the Indian Air Force.

Shikwa Bhi Tum Se from ‘Dil Maange More’ (2004)
Nikhil (Kapoor) is unlucky in love in this comedy romance. His first love Neha (Soha Ali Khan) dreams of becoming a flight attendant which means leaving their small town for the big city. Nikhil doesn’t want to stop her but at the same time wishes she would change her mind about leaving however Neha remains adamant. Nikhil is hurt when he is unable to say goodbye to her when she leaves. He misses her and perhaps feels that she doesn’t realise how much he loves her.

Sonu Nigam expresses the frustration Nikhil is feeling through his vocals. A very young Kapoor is seen in the film and with his character experiencing heartbreak for the very first time this song shows his every feeling.

The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes Shahid Kapoor a very happy 40th Birthday!
