Shane Warne Criticises Tim Paine's Captaincy In Fourth Test

Former Australian spin legend Shane Warne seems to be unhappy with Tim Paine’s tactics as captain in the fourth Test. Wane feels Paine was very loose as captaincy and did not force the issue with the Indian tailenders in the first innings and allowed the Sundar- Shardul partnership to grow. Warne feels that Paine missed a few tricks and did not try a few things which was expected of him. This comes after Paine missed three catches in the Sydney Test which ended in a draw.

Speaking ahead of the play on Day 4 of the Test, Shane Warne said that Paine has not done a few things he should have done as a captain.

Shane Warne Blasts Tim Paine’s Captaincy

“I think India has been the best team in this series, but I think Australia has had so many opportunities to win this series, they just haven’t taken them,” Warne was quoted as saying by Fox Cricket.

Shane Warne further criticised the entire team’s tactics throughout the entire Indian first innings and blamed it on Paine’s inefficient captaincy.

“I think at times their tactics haven’t been good enough, and I suppose that’s got to come down to Tim Paine as captain. Why hasn’t he done certain things? He hasn’t had the best time behind the stumps,” he further said.

India scored 336 in their first innings at The Gabba after being 186/5 at one point in their innings. Shardul Thakur and Wahington Sundar added 123 runs of 217 balls to take India to that score.

Shane Warne blamed the Australian bowlers to allow the Indian tailenders to fight back in the first innings.

“But it’s also the bowlers, it’s not just the captain. The bowlers are allowed to say what fields they want, what tactics they want. I’ve been surprised at Australia’s tactics, particularly yesterday and in Sydney at times,” Warne signed off.
