Indian Test team opener Shubman Gill is likely to be ruled out of the first Test of the five-match series against England due to a lower leg injury. The first Test starts in Nottingham on August 4 and the 21-year-old is struggling to get fit on time. An official aware of the development said, “He will miss the first Test due to a lower leg injury. But whether he will be available for the rest of the series is yet to be said.
Gill, who failed in the World Test Championship, has played only eight Test matches scoring 28 and eight runs and averages 31.84. He has scored three half-centuries, including two, in India’s victorious Test campaign in Australia.
India have reserve openers in Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul, who can face the new ball along with Rohit Sharma. They also have Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran among the standby players.
