Sonu Sood moves Bombay HC against BMC notice for illegal construction

In recent developments, Actor Sonu Sood has moved the Bombay High Court in a bid to challenge an order of the city civil court that dismissed his petition against the notice issued to him by the BMC.

Mumbai’s civic body, the Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had earlier issued notice to the actor for allegedly carrying out structural changes to a residential building in suburban Juhu without permission. According to the civic body, the six-storey residential building in Juhu has been converted into a hotel without the required permits.

The actor further urged the court to set aside the civil court’s order and dismiss the notice issued by the BMC in October last year, further seeking interim relief restraining the civic body from taking coercive action against him.

The civic body had earlier come under the scanner when it had carried out the demolition process at actor Kangana Ranaut’s house. The Bombay High Court ordered a stay in the process which led to the civic body halting the process of demolition. Reacting to the incident, Kangana had earlier posted a video expressing her anger against the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government.

Moreover, on the same day, the civic body had also cornered Manish Malhotra, the fashion designer, for turning his house into a commercial space and not acquiring the due permission for it. As per the notice issued under Section 351 (unauthorized construction) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, there are four violations in the Malhotra office operating out of bungalow 6, 41 on Nargis Dutt Road at Pali Hill.
