Amid controversy over an alleged inappropriate depiction of Hindu deities, Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Tandav’ web series again landed in trouble as Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday, January 20, said that action against the show as per law.

While talking to reporters, Deshmukh said, “We have received a complaint regarding web series ‘Tandav’, action will be taken as per the law. Central government should bring legislation in regard to OTT (over-the-top) platforms.”

On January 18, an FIR was registered against Amazon Prime’s India head of original content Aparna Purohit, director of web series ‘Tandav’ Ali Abbas Zafar, its producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, writer Gaurav Solanki and others at Lucknow’s Hazratganj Kotwali for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

This had come after two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders allegedly had raised an issue against the Saif Ali Khan-starrer web series ‘Tandav’.

Later, the makers have issued a statement in this regards. The statement reads, “We have been closely monitoring viewer reactions to the web series ‘Tandav’ and during a discussion, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have informed us regarding a large number of grievances and petitions received on various facets of the web series with serious concerns and apprehensions regarding its content hurting the sentiments of the people.”

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry had summoned Amazon Prime Video officials in India in connection with the controversy around the web series ‘Tandav’, sources said on Sunday, January 17.

Tandav featuring actors Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Dino Morea, Kumud Mishra, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Gauhar Khan and Kritika Kamra, premiered on the streaming platform on Friday, January 15. The show has been getting mixed reviews ever since.
