  • Nubia’s Red Magic brand is set to launch a smartwatch.
  • Spotted in an FCC listing, the Red Magic Watch will feature a circular face.
  • It also packs heart-rate and blood oxygen saturation sensors.

Nubia’s Red Magic is perhaps best known for its gaming smartphones, but it seems the company is set to offer something for its customers’ wrists. A recent FCC filing discovered by Android Authority suggests that the brand is readying a smartwatch, namely the Red Magic Watch.

Wearing the model number SW2102, the Red Magic Watch employs a more traditional, almost standard design for circular-faced smartwatches. It’s definitely no follow up to the outlandish Nubia Alpha or aesthetic match for Red Magic’s exuberant smartphones.

Red Magic Watch: Specs and features

The filing pictures the watch with two protruding nubs mounted on the right-hand side. These are namely for power and shortcut access. A 1.39-inch 454 x 454 touchscreen resides within a chunky circular bezel, while the ~13mm wide watch straps are fastened and secured using pins. The watch also packs 5ATM water resistance.

Wireless specs include GPS, GLONASS, and QZSS positioning technology, and Bluetooth 5.0 LE support. The watch pairs with devices running Android 4.4 or newer versions via the Red Magic Sports app.

According to images, it seemingly uses a GigaDevice chip, but there’s no mention of how much storage is available to the user. The Red Magic Watch also packs a geomagnetic sensor, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and accelerometer.

Fitness features are included, too. A heart-rate sensor makes an appearance at the back of the watch, but only records accurate details when the user keeps their wrist still. A blood oxygen saturation sensor also features. We imagine these will be joined by fitness tracking too, but nothing in the filing specifically mentions this.

Finally, in terms of power, a 420mAh battery charges via an included cradle. It tops out at 2.5W speeds but should be more than adequate for most users.

There’s no word on when the Red Magic Watch could make an appearance, but the filing’s presence suggests an official launch may not be too far away.
