The synopsis for The Flame Bearer reads: “Uhtred of Bebbanburg, at last, gets the chance to take back the home his traitorous uncle stole out of him so many years back — and which his scheming cousin still occupies.
“But destiny is inexorable and the enemies Uhtred has made and the oaths he’s sworn unite to divert him from his dream of recapturing Bebbanburg and Britain’s precarious peace threatens to become a war of annihilation.”
There are two more books after ten and nine, titled War of the Wolf and Sword of Kings, so if enough people tune in there’s a solid chance that The Last Kingdom will be back for season six.
Cornwell advised Reader’s Digest that”there is a grand strategy” with regards to how long the string will operate,” but that is more or less up to the audiences as to if they like it”.
He added: “From my perspective, there are books so far and I have to start the tenth book.”
