Dominic Bess, the England off-spinner, has rated Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s wicket was the most satisfying of his international career thus far.

From England’s contingent, the third day’s play at the MA Chidambaram Stadium belonged to Dominic Bess as he picked up four wickets, pushing the hosts on the backfoot. Among the regular bowlers, the 23-year-old was also the most economical as he returned with figures of 4/76 which included Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant’s wickets.

“Kohli’s wicket is certainly the most satisfying of my career. He is obviously one of the best players. It is very special, but more for what my process was. It is not about bowling that magic ball. It’s about smashing in 10-15 balls in a good area and then something will happen.

“It is that process and that is what I was really pleased about. I kept him in a spot,” Bess told after play on Sunday.

As far as taking Virat Kohli’s wicket was concerned, Dominic Bess tossed one up and the batsman tried to push it away. However, he got an inside edge and Ollie Pope took a sharp catch at short leg. Virat Kohli perished after scoring a 48-ball 11, leaving India at 71 for three in the 25th over.

Though he has two five-wicket hauls against Sri Lanka and South Africa, Dominic Bess said that he’s been at his best in the ongoing Test match at the Chepauk.

“Yeah, I think this is the best I have ever bowled. I thought I bowled really well in South Africa (a year ago), but I am coming into this series with not a lot of preparation,” he stated.

Dominic Bess also had Jack Leach’s back as the latter had to bear the brunt of some brutal hitting from Rishabh Pant. In 24 overs, Jack Leach gave away 105 runs with 2 scalps. Dominic Bess said that Jack Leach is mentally strong and has all the potential to make a strong comeback.

“I thought he bowled really well too. Pant is a completely different player. But he came back again and just kept hitting good areas. He is strong mentally and those hits are not going to faze him,” Bess added.

India scored 337 with useful contributions from Cheteshwar Pujara who scored 73, Rishabh Pant who scored 91 and Washington Sundar who remained unbeaten on 85.
