The Australian tour became a major talent find for the Indian team as player’s who weren’t even near India selection went on to make headlines after performing in the last Test at Brisbane.

The likes of Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar batted their hearts out in the first innings giving India the much-needed initial boost at the apparent fortress of Australia. Shubman Gill Will Be Most The Most Talked Cricketer During India – England Series’ – VVS Laxman

Just a few days before the England series kicks off in Chennai, VVS Laxman has opined on the one Indian player that will be most talked about during the series. To much surprise, it isn’t Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant or Jasprit Bumrah, it’s Shubman Gill who’s had a dream debut in Australia. First scoring runs with the bat opening the innings and then India winning against Australia in Australia for the 2nd consecutive time.

“I think he will be the most-talked-about cricketer, not only in Test match cricket but in all three formats. The reason I say that is he didn’t get it easy. I felt the kind of talent and the performances he has shown in various levels whether it’s in the IPL, whether it’s India A or first-class cricket for Punjab, I think he has been very consistent. I think he waited patiently for his opportunity while some of his colleagues got ahead of him,” VVS Laxman said while speaking to Sports Today.

VVS Laxman praised Shubman Gill for his killer instinct against the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins in Australia. The intent and technique shown by Shubman Gill was commendable given that it was his debut Test series for India.

“What I really enjoyed was he was ready for the big occasion. And opening in Australia against a very good fast-bowling attack in the form of Hazlewood, Starc and Cummins is never easy but to do that in this fashion after India were bowled out for 36 and the aggression and technique he showed. The killer instinct he showed by backing his ability without comprising his ability and flamboyance speaks volumes of the work he has put in,” he added.
