Rishabh Pant

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was at his chirpiest best on what turned out to be a rather disappointing first day for Team India at the Chepauk in Chennai.

Pant has made quite a reputation of being quite entertaining behind the stumps either through his interactions with the batsman on strike or via his generation words of appreciation for his bowlers.

On a day where the Indian bowlers continued to toil on a lifeless track at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium against the likes of opener Dom Sibley and skipper Joe Root, Pant continued to entertain behind the stumps.

He dished out several hilarious nuggets throughout the day but the one that stood out was his jibe at off-spinner Washington Sundar where he heard to be saying-

Mera naam hai Washington, Mereko jana hai DC,” Rishabh Pant said.

The video of ‘poet Rishabh’ has become viral on social media, leaving fans in absolute splits.

Meanwhile, England have asserted itself into a real position of dominance in the Chennai Test.

After having won the toss and deciding to bat first, the visitors made full use of the benign surface via a 200-run-stand between Sibley (87) and skipper Joe Root for the 3rd wicket.

Skipper Root displayed another masterclass in how to play spin bowling in Asian conditions and in the process he became the first batsman to score a 100 in each of his 98th, 99th and 100th Tests.

Besides that, Root also became the 9th batsman to score a ton in his landmark 100th Test.

India eventually got the wicket of Sibley in the closing stages of the first day but the second day thus far has proved to be yet another struggle with Ben Stokes launching a counterattack on the bowling attack.
