Wonder Woman, Harry Potter and other WarnerMedia stars urge fans to 'mask up' in new PSA

If Harry Potter, Frodo Baggins and Wonder Woman can do it… why can’t you? That’s the message of a just-released WarnerMedia PSA that uses the company’s wide stable of fan-favorite heroes to encourage masking up as a way to combat the spread of COVID-19. Produced in collaboration with the Ad Council and the CDC, the 30-second spot takes memorable scenes from such blockbuster movies as The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings and Birds of Prey — as well as older classics like Casablanca — and places masks over the key characters featured in every frame. In between the montage of movie clips, the onscreen text reminds viewers at home that masks are an essential route back to all of us “doing our favorite things, whatever that might be.” One element that won’t be a lot of peoples’ favorite thing is that the editors incorporated brief scenes from Joss Whedon’s controversial version of Justice League into the PSA, including an exchange between Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ben Affleck’s Batman. Already a critical and commercial failure upon release, the film inspired a WarnerMedia investigation into Whedon’s conduct after Ray Fisher — who played Cyborg — accused Whedon of “unacceptable” on-set behavior. In an unfortunate bit of timing, the PSA debuted the same day that Charisma Carpenter disclosed new allegations about the writer/director’s “toxic” actions on the sets of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

So far, the PSA is drawing largely positive reviews on Twitter for its “Mask Up” message.
