The nominations for the 26th annual Critics’ Choice Awards are out and Netflix is leading the field with the most nominations.
The streaming service had the most nominations, 26, of any outlet this year followed by HBO’s 24. This year, two Netflix series lead the pack, with ‘Ozark’ and ‘The Crown’ each up for six awards including Best Drama Series.
‘Ozark’ stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney will vie for Best Actor in a Drama Series and Best Actress in a Drama Series respectively, while Tom Pelphrey, Julia Garner, and Janet McTeer are all nominated for their supporting roles. ‘The Crown’ also saw many of its royal players recognized. Josh O’Connor is nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series, while Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin find themselves together in the Best Actress in a Drama Series category. Tobias Menzies and Gillian Anderson received recognition for their supporting roles.
While HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country,’ FX’s ‘Mrs. America’ and ‘What We Do in the Shadows and Pop TV’s “Schitt’s Creek” followed with five nods. AMC’s ‘Better Call Saul’ and HBO’s ‘The Plot Against America’ received four nominations apiece.
Film nominees will be announced on February 8. Winners in both film and television are expected to be announced at the group’s March 7 awards show hosted by Taye Diggs on the CW network.
Hollywood’s traditional awards season has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with Grammy Awards pushed back to March 14 and the Screen Actors Guild Awards to April 4. The Oscars are expected to close the award season on April 25.
