PUBG Unban: Explaining section 69A IT Act, PUBG unban date

PUBG Unban: PUBG Mobile has been banned in India for over four months now, and there is no significant update on when the game would return to India. The ban came under the section 69A of the IT Act of the Indian Penal Code, citing it to be a threat to the security and sovereignty of the country.

Section 69A of the Information Technology Act gives the government the power to take down any online content, which they classify as harmful or threatening to the country. The game’s relaunch date is still unknown, however, there has been a lot of activity around the relaunch of the game with the hiring of a new team along with PUBG India being registered as a new company with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

What is Section 69A of IT Act because of which unban is not happening?

Section 69A of the IT Act provides the government of India with the power to issue directions for blocking public access to any information through any computer resource.

The game’s relaunch date is still unknown, however, the initial was given to the gamers when the first PUBG trailer was released in November with big PUBG content creators like Dynamo, Kronten and Jonathan. However, the to and fro of conversations between the PUBG corporation and the government has not started. When the talks of PUBG Mobile started, it was proposed that PUBG Mobile India will come with special features, specific to India and will be tweaked according to the government’s concerns.

Meanwhile, since there is no concrete date on when the game will get unbanned, players in India can enjoy the Korean version of the game or the Vietnamese or the Taiwanese version or the Chinese version since their accessibility is not banned in the country. An RTI filed by Gem Wire has cleared that.
